Human resource is one of the most important resources that needs to be leveraged by any organization in today’s competitive world.  Employee Engagement is one aspect that is of main concern in managing human resources, where it does not merely means attracting employees and retaining them but, keeping their motivation and commitment towards organizational goals. In the current times, organizations which have understood the importance of this have being more successful and have achieved high productivity. 

What is Employee Engagement?

Employee Engagement has been defined by various researchers, where it can be briefly summarized as physical, psychological, emotional commitment towards the organization and has been recognized as one of the top five global strategies by various business personal. An engaged staff work towards achieving organization goals, retain in the company, act as representatives of organization, become innovative at workplace and spread positivity. Engaged employees will go the extra mile for the success of the company, while disengaged employees believes their job is not critical to the organization which will eventually affect co-workers, customers, performance and productivity.

Factors that drive Employee Engagement

Commitment, motivation, loyalty and trust are vital elements in Employee Engagement. This is not a process which can be achieved in a short time but rather a long and a continuous process that should be practiced along the time. This should contain a proper plan and design, surveys to understand employee needs, open communication, action plans and follow ups and should cater to each level of organizational hierarchy. Today’s employees are more attracted towards personal growth, learning, self-development and equity. Hence, adapting for the changing needs of the employees should be adhered by companies to meet the need of the hour.





Who are responsible?

Employee engagement is achieved when employees realize the company respects their work, personal growth and aspirations. It is influenced by workplace culture, communication, leadership styles etc. HR professionals and managers play important roles in taking initiatives in this process. Everyone who interacts with employees from top management to HR teams should take necessary actions to improve engagement of employees.



How to improve Employee Engagement?

·        Provide training and opportunities

·        Frequently discuss engagement

·        Have open communication

·        Obtain feedback

·        Engage employees in decision making and making them involved

·        Recognize and reward employee contributions and achievements

·        Make them feel valued
